The Flinstones Warrior Strikes(Out) Again

Did you actually think that you heard the last from Samuel Peralta Sosa. The body by flinstones vitamins stated to the A.P. that he is ready to make a return- not comeback- but return to the big leagues next year. What's the most amazing about his statement is not his delusion to return, but that he is now fluent enough in English to be interviewed by the A.P.

Lest we forget how Sammygate led to one of this city's greatest and quickest downfalls in sports lore. Sammy's Nixonian paranoia and thin skin found its way to the Orioles in 05. He quickly claimed Baltimore as his city before a .224 average and 14 homeruns led to Peter Angelos telling the Warrior to fight elsewhere. 2006 found Sammy with only one non-guaranteed offer of 500k from the Nationals. Sammy was insulted enough to sit out the entire season.

Clearly Sammy is waging a p.r. battle for the hall of fame. He realizes that his charter membership in the hormone replacement therapy club now dashes his first class ticket to the hall. Sammy has always been very good at manipulating the media, until they finally turned on him. The plan has been to let the steroid furor die down by lying low in Santo Damingo and Miami. Then come back with any team for a borderline respectable salary and reach 600 home runs. In the process gain some goodwill back by turning on the Sammy charm while peppering the press with clever Sammyisms.

The only wrench in his plan is that his skills have deteriorated to class A level. I honestly believe he was only a less than average big leaguer without the juice. His career numbers placed graphically correspond almost exactly to the onset, peak, and decline of the steroid era. Even all the juice couldn't help him in the field.

Remember the magic of testosterone. It will make an average player fantastic and a fantantic player superman.(Bonds) It greatly incerases physical ability and recovery, but most importantly it gives the user the confidence to dominate. Perhaps thats why baseball stats went off the wall, more than any other sport, during the steroid era. Hitting a baseball takes confidence. When you have it in abundance, you fear no pitcher(bonds 03). When its lacking you can look as though you should go back to the softball leagues(Arod 06).

Unlike Conseco who has been blackballed by all with power. Sammy is still in the good graces of many managers. The fact that not one team will take a flyer on him is an astounding indictment of his diminished skills. Sammy the lovable latin who could do no wrong was adored by all. This must now be the hardest part for the great Warrior - nobody cares. Though his baseball skills have diminished, his newly acquired English skills have flourished. I hear Flinstones vitamins needs a pitchman. Hey Sammy, try it, it'll do wonders for your career.
