I know its too early to panic about the Bulls, but following their Bears like victory in their opener against Miami they have looked dismal. Could we have been so excited about landing a premier center like Ben Wallace that we overlooked the numbers. They have been steadily declining since 02. His current figures are 6pts and 10rpg. Too soon to make a judgement you say, well these were his numbers last year as well. Is this what 64 mill buys you these days.
Much like the Rodman acquisition, Wallace is the perfect complement to an offensive force. Unfortunately for the Bulls, no offensive leader has emerged. Wallace's numbers look more like Tyson Chandler's then Rodman's. He will definitely have to step up offensively for this team to compete. I know he's here for his defensive prowess, but with opponents scoring more than 100pts he has appeared just average. This league is full of f/c who can put of 6/10 if given the chance for a fraction of the cost.
Another seed for thought is Scott Skiles history with teams he's coached. Years 1 and 2 go well while in year 3 the teams seem to stop buying his aggresive approach. Historically year 3 is when his teams begin to decline. True he has a young and impressionable team, but these are all professionals who now how other players are treated around the league.
Anything but a deep playoff team will be seen as a disappointment.
More later...
