Gerald Ford 1913-2006: President, Baller, Golfer, Stud
President Ford- A man out of time, but what an athlete. Unlike our current Prez who never played any organized sports, but fancies himself an athlete, Gerarld Ford was a stud! A three-time all American at Michigan and is ranked by golf digest as the 3rd best Presidential golfer.
Ford played both offensive and defensive lineman for Michigan from 1933-1937. He was named MVP of the team in 1936. He was drafted by Green Bay, but chose law school at Yale. Photos reveal he packed a hell of physique for the day.
For Presidents the true athletic measuring stick is Golf. Here Ford excelled, by playing almost daily as a congressman and trying to keep the same pace while president. His handicap was a reported 5. What a swing! This puts him behind only Kennedy(1) and Ike(2)-not bad company. While the rest of the world honors President Ford for his role in American Politics, DCS remembers President Ford the Athlete!
