Big Z Could Be Ultimate beneficiary

Just a thought; with the exorbitant spending we are seeing in MLB, Carlos Zambrano may become the highest paid pitcher in baseball. Zambrano is arguably the best pitcher in the National league and avoided arbitration this year by having the Cubs pay him 6.5 mil.

Pitching is at a severe premium in baseball. With aging 2 tier pitchers such as Jason Schmidt reportedly being offered 12mil a year, Zambrano is in an enviable position. Zambrano will be 26 after next season and has never had even a remotely serious pitching injury. Assuming Big Z puts up anything close to his usually amazing season, he will be the number one target of the 2007 off season.

Contractually, he has almost snuck under the radar because he is so young. With the Cubs recent spending spree, they will definitely be in the hunt, but the N.Y's and the Boston's will try to out do each other. If the precedent being spent is the Japanese guy, Zambrano's patience will definitely come to fruition. In a bidding war, Zambrano may command 15-18 mil a year!

Lets hope Zambrano stays healthy, has a great season, and remains a Cub.
